IMO real MTB shoes are worth the price. They’ll have more supportive soles than Vans, but more importantly they are much tougher. They have reinforced toe boxes which can really save your toes and Five10s and such will last much longer that Vans. MTB shoes take a lot of abuse, buying quality shoes is 100% worth it. Mine are pretty comfortable but everyone's got different shaped feet and different shoes will fit better plus also they have different fits within the brand too. Are you sure you “LOVE” Vans when you think they’re uncomfortable? Imo they just need arch support and more cushion. It’s basically like walking barefoot. The pros are technically made for skating. There are shoes that are sized primarily for women - i.e. the standard width is lower - but that's a comfort and fit issue, not a "lockout" issue. I think nearly all Vans are unisex, some of them have a slightly slimmer fit if they're women's, so maybe get half a size up if you have wider feet.
